A man travelling at a “ridiculous” speed tried to explain it by saying he was checking how well his car went.
The man was heading north on the Waikato Expressway, near Cambridge, when he was stopped by Highway Patrol about 8.30pm on Wednesday.
“His explanation was that he was just checking the performance of his car,” said Waikato District Command Centre Senior Sergeant Damion Rangitutia
The man’s vehicle was impounded, his licence was suspended and he will appear in court.
Rangitutia described the speed as “ridiculous” and said it could have put the man and other motorists at risk.
“We want people to get to their destinations in one piece and sticking to the speed limit is part of that,” he said.
